explosions in the sky

If you've been keeping up with my blog this year you may have noticed my penchant for floppy hats, faux fur, chunky wedges, and stacked bangles, to name a few. I suppose it's fitting, then, that I've (unintentionally!) incorporated all of the above in my final outfit post of 2010.

It's 5 p.m. here in Hawaii and in a few hours some friends and I will bid adieu to yet another fine year. The folks in my neighborhood are already lighting up fireworks which is only fueling my anticipation for the night and the coming year. I was going to write an overly sentimental novel reflecting on how amazing this past year was and how much I've grown as a person, etc. etc., but instead I'll just state that the future looks promising and I absolutely cannot wait to see what 2011 has in store! Hope you all have/had a wonderful new year's celebration!

I like to pretend that it's colder than it actually is

Zac Posen x Target leather motorcycle jacket; Calvin Klein waffle knit scarf; American Eagle messenger bag; Target boots

One word to sum up my brief absence from blogging: F I N A L S
Now that winter break is finally here, I can get back into the swing of all things blogging-related. I've missed it so. I do apologize, dear readers, and thank you for sticking with me!

pumpkin pie palette

Merona button-up shirt; Jeffrey Campbell wedges
Happy Holidays, everyone! I've been living in easy outfits like this for the past two weeks. Found this random leopard print scarf in the depths of my dresser drawers and flung it haphazardly over my shoulders merely seconds before my photographer/partner-in-crime showed up in my driveway to pick me up that afternoon.

I just got home from Black Friday shopping, although I'd hardly consider it "shopping" as I've come home empty-handed (okay, maybe not entirely empty-handed -- a Tommy Hilfiger "super soft plush throw" blanket, a memory foam mattress topper, and lacy underthings). Luckily, the internet exists and my online haunts are fully stocked with everything I've been deprived of, i.e.; new purses, shoes and outerwear. Indulgence is calling my name...

Laced Up

Material Girl lace bodysuit; H&M floppy hat; Jeffrey Campbell wedges; Betsey Johnson diamond stud earrings
A few days ago, I modeled for a talented photographer friend of mine, Kira Okamoto -- here are the results! Be sure to check out more of this lovely lady's work HERE. Thanks again, Kira!

never without

American Rag shorts; Jeffery Campbell wedges

...a floppy hat, it seems. But what can I say? They are my weakness! Bare legs seemed appropriate given the unusually warm weather that afternoon. Consistent Fall weather patterns in Hawaii? Unheard of. Please excuse my short absence from blogging -- midterms + papers have consumed my life these past two weeks. Now introducing my latest shoe purchase: Jeffrey Campbell clog wedges. Would you believe me if I said I found them at a deeply discounted price of $50? Mega score! In the past I'd turn my nose up at mixing silver + gold jewelry together; as of late, I find no problem with it, as exhibited here. Hooray for experimenting.
Happy Halloween weekend to all of you who celebrate it & thank you to all of my readers who continually stop by and grace me with your kind words -- I really appreciate it!

STOLE my heart

Cable knit sweater with detachable fur stole - Ross; American Rag tap shorts; American Apparel thigh high socks

Photos by my dear friend Logan
Channeling minimalist tendencies with solid shades and a pop of camel and candy apple red nails for unexpected splashes of color. This just may be my new favorite cardigan. I nearly died, not only because I found it at Ross Dress for Less, of all places, but when I noticed that the attached fur stole is also detachable. And for under $30, it just couldn't get any better. Cue the cable knits & fur...Fall has arrived.
Now Playing: "Voodoo Child" by Jimi Hendrix (totally would have worn this outfit to one of his concerts in the late 60's)

Flares With Flair

Forever21 fur vest; Thrifted chunky knit cardigan & various H&M bracelets sent from Kash in San Francisco; Flouncy lace tank top; Bell-bottom flare jeans - Ross; Velvet wedges

Photos by Logan
Slowly but surely, I'm beginning to shed my summer skin. Today's cool weather allowed me to pile on fur + this chunky knit cardi that Kash sent to me -- two items I've harbored in my closet for weeks, due to those sweltering summer months. I'm not much of a denim jeans kind of gal (think skinnies, bootcut, and the like. It's been over 9 months since I last wore a pair), so traipsing around town in these flares was a nice departure from my jeans-deprived life. Not to mention, the comfort level of these bell bottoms are pleasantly high. Pretty sure I've been converted to a jeans kind of gal after I found this pair at Ross. Well, a flare jeans gal, anyway. I'm now in hot pursuit of the next pair I can get my hands on, preferably in either a super dark wash or light wash...

Je t'aime tellement...

Numéro October 2010
source: noirfacade

On the prowl for the perfect (faux) fur coat that is somehow light enough for Hawaii's sporadic humidity yet voluminous enough to bundle me up in bliss. Could such an ideal article of clothing exist? Attending my town's annual massive free concert festival last Saturday has rendered me sickly and unable to function, much less photograph my outfits. I promise to document my latest wares as soon as I'm fully recovered. In any case, j'étudie le français tous les jours. Parce que j'ai cours de français tous les matins. Native speakers, feel free to correct my grammar if necessary -- I'm still a novice. Bisous!

très casual

Forever21 striped crop tee via a random mall store; Levi's 501 denim shorts; Gray haze aviator sunnies - local consignment shop; Urban Outfitters well-worn boots; Souvenir canvas bag

Kept it très casual yesterday for a sunkissed afternoon of downtown traipsing, Kava bar drinking, and county fair wanderings. The label on my cropped tee reads, "twentyone" yet I found the top at a local mall store...for $1.94. Get this: no such Forever21 stores exist in my town. How strange. I'm assuming this top, given its minor flaw (bleeding blue dye from one of the stripes), was tossed into a pile of rejects and somehow ended up in said mall store at a heavily discounted price. I'm not complaining, though, trust me. I have a couple of pairs of these Levi's 501 shorts (hence, why you've seen them on the blog quite often) and they're definitely one of my favorite go-to pieces whenever I want to add a touch of grunge to an outfit. The canvas bag is a souvenir that my boyfriend's grandmother brought back from le Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle in Paris. Très cool!

chambray + camel

BCBGMaxAzria camel cardigan, American Rag chambray bustier, Self-made skirt, Chanel pendant necklace, Steve Madden wedges

Schoolwork has taken over my life these past two weeks and has impaired my ability to blog. If you saw my planner with its sporadic 'to-do' notes and ramblings of sorts, you'd believe me. Finally found a pocket of time to snap some photos today.

I definitely feel like chambray + camel hues were meant to be. I found this ultra-soft BCBGMaxAzria cardigan at -- you guessed it, my local Goodwill. I fell in love with the gorgeous camel and moreover, with the price -- $3.99, can't go wrong with that.

Black magic crochet

Crochet blouse via Goodwill, Off-white Levi's 501, H&M necklace courtesy of my bf, BCBGeneration wedges

My local Goodwill never fails me. I found this crochet blouse there last Sunday -- probably the best day to shop, in my humble opinion. My love for this fun little number is amplified not only by its color (the counterpart to my white crochet), but by its interesting shape. The bell sleeves induced exaggerated arm movements throughout the day in order to achieve the full effect of said sleeves. After countless uses, my good old floppy hat is beginning to rip. Luckily, it's nothing a needle and thread can't fix. I suppose that will be my project tomorrow...along with hemming up a $6 dress I found today (knee-grazing hemlines are hardly flattering on me). Somewhere in between all of that, I'll find the time to read my textbooks.

Once again, I must thank my dear friend Logan for taking my pictures!

On an end note, I also found a far out pair of flared jeans today. It may sound silly, but I feel a little more complete. I'm ready, now more than ever, to embrace my inner bohemian, ha ha.
